So, I was thinking today... Maybe its time for me to start thinking about what my next public (public as in 'free') project could be. All my current public projects are going or went better then planned (C-P, MailNuke, ST-Grabber and #Leech) so coming up with something that will match these is not that simple. At least, not for me :P .

Today though I had one of those 'AHA!' moments. An idea for something that's quite simple but - i think - would be very handy. I also think there's nothing like this around at this point.

So what is it? Well, we've all seen those sites that offer streaming movies, tv series, etc. They are good, but the problem with nearly every single one of them is the quality. The vast majority of them have VERY poor quality. So I thought what would the possibilities be if i took this idea to a desktop application? Would an application based on this idea be able to offer anything better then those websites?

Well I think it does. Think about it, there are tons upon tons of FTP's out there that host movies/videos which are publicly available. A lot of them have download speeds of over 150 KByte/second. What this means then is that the download speed is good enough to be able to stream the videos. Combine this with a database that holds all available movies, tv series and whatever and you have the possibility to create a program where you can watch anything by just a single click. No more searching for a download, no rapidshare, no more waiting for a download to finish before you can watch it.

Sounds good no? Well that's what I'll be working on. It will go by the name of PirateTube and will be written in the latest incarnation of C# and .NET. :)

Discuss?

Fucking Brilliant. Plain & Simple.

I do not usually watch much streaming, but with bandwidth use becoming a huge problem here in the US, this would be a brilliant solution.

Do you have any idea the quality of the streaming? Hulu quality? Better?

Can't wait to see this happen! Great Job as always Hyperz!

The quality would be the same as the dvdrips or cams you find on any warez forum. There will be no loss of quality from the source files. all that is required is an internet connection thats fast enough. If you can download 700mb in lets say 60 minutes then your fine. Infact 1080p HD movies wouldn't be a problem (again, as long as your connection speed is fast enough).

In other words, this would stream the exact same files you would download from rapidshare if you get my point.

Lol. We'll lets not forget atm this is all still theoretic. But i'll build a quick proof-of-concept in a few moments. Just to see what it gives to stream a illegal movie over FTP.

Great idea! Like Demon_Dog said, we can beat Netflix/Blockbuster/etc. out of buisness. :P

I mean, there a lot of things LIKE this, but most are poor quality or you need to register or something.

Again GREAT IDEA!!!
