Hi. It came to my attention that there was a small issue with uploading Avatars and (profile) photo's where it would show an error saying that it couldn't upload or move the avatar/photo. This was due to a slight misconfiguration which should have been changed when we moved servers. Anyway, sorry about that.
Board updated

The forum has finally been updated from IPB 3.0.0 to 3.0.3. This should fix a good number of small bugs and performance issues. The shoutbox has also been updated to the latest version.

Other than the updates I've also added the rebuild version of our dual column layout skin and set that one as the default skin. For those that prefer the previous skin version you can still switch back to it by selecting the skin on the bottom of the page. I think we have nearly all stuff back we lost since the update from IPB 2 now. However, there's still more to come .

Hope you guys like the update, if not, I'm open for suggestions.

Quote

Well HOSTBEYOND is officially dead. There's no way I can pay for the server now after all the chargebacks and loss of clients.

I just smashed my desktop pc, lcd monitor, along with my TV and guitar. So I pretty much have to quit the internet. I still have my laptop though. Most clients have abandoned ship. I suggest everyone else do the same. Take a backup and issue a chargeback. Let's make it quick and painless.

I'll be sending a mass email later, there's simply no chance in hell I'll be able to recover finacially. Even if I were able to recover. I don't think it's worth it.

I spent the last year of my life working my ass off for next to nothing and now it's time for me to move on.

Seems like we are headed for more downtime since I'll have to switch hosts. The thing is, HB was probably the best and most respected offshore host around. I'm not sure how I'm gonna go about this atm since 9 out of 10 offshore hosts are shit. And, I'm not gonna pay $100+ a month for a dedi when I really don't need one. This is just fuckin great...

Edit: found out I still have a month time, that's more than the "few days" it was at first so that gives me enough time to switch without a lot of problems.

Link Checker Updated...

Well, it seems some other (IPB 3) warez sites enjoy copy/pasting our implementation of the TN link checker. To keep those fellas entertained and to help them find (read: copy) inspiration I've updated the way the link checker is implemented. Instead of using a dirty pop-up method which gets blocked by IE it is now being done via DHTML. I believe this is more user friendly since the link checking can be done in the same page.

Example:

Unexpected Dowtime

So most will have noticed we've been down for the last few day. Well (keeping it short) this was due to a server update issue and shortly after that a DDoS aimed at our host. These 2 problems spawned an army of other server side problems and ended up corrupting the servers HDD. Because this happened in the weekend the datacenter couldn't provide a new harddrive till Monday. So that's the downtime reason in a nutshell basically.

My apologies for this inconvenience .

V2 To-Do List And Bug Reports

With the update behind us I thought I'd inform you guy's what to expect now. I see most people welcome the update while some don't like it and prefer the old C-P. I think those that prefer the old version really prefer the customizations it had. As I stated several times, those will return.

The thing is, IPB 3 is brand new. That means there's little documentation to go by which makes modding or writing hooks for it a bitch at this point. So don't expect most of the things like dual column to return within the next week. Other stuff will be done sooner (Section icons, Top stats/latest posts).

Many of the things you see such as the Latest Discussions thingy on the right are buggy and temporary. Parts of IPB 3 itself still contain a fair amount of bugs to. Most of those will get fixed with IPB 3.0.1, which is being released soon.

Here's some stuff on my "still to-do list":

Upgrade to IPB 3.0.1

Section Icons

Post Highlighting for Gold Members

Top 8 Stats together with the scrolling Latest Posts mod

Dual Column Layout

User "status update" displayed in the posts

Your twitter (incl. your twitter posts) on your profile page

[...]

And finally, if you guys find bugs etc, feel free to report them here .

Code-Projects v2

Yup its officially coming to a PC near you. I didn't expect I would have to worry about a revamp of C-P so soon, but when IPS drops IPB 3.0 in front of your nose you - or should I say "I" - can't ignore it. Anyway, to get straight to the point, today I purchased Checkered (that would be the skin we all love, this one) for IPB 3. Most sites go for a complete new look when they decide to do a big update. But I think that in this case it isn't worth the risk. You know, the "Don't change a winning team" thing . The update to IPB 3 alone will be a big step forward.

The bad news:

Yup, there is some of that. Nothing from IPB 2.3 will work on 3.0. This means our dual column layout, section icons, VIP post highlights etc will no longer be there after the update . The propz system is going to sink to the depths of the seven pirate seas as well along with the total amount of propz per user.

The Good news:

But don't panic! All of that is just temporary. Those futures will be rebuild one by one and put back into place. That could take a some time but the result of bringing that back and moving to IPB 3 will be well worth it in the end.

When:

That depends on how smooth the test conversions go. This afternoon I ported a weeks old backup to IPB 3 without any big problems. Just a tiny issue here and there that didn't look like anything big.

If all goes smooth the update should arrive one of the next days. If not it'll be some time later this month. Obviously I'll need to shut the site down during the process. That should take anything from 1 to 48 hours, again depending on how things go.

That's about it. If any of you have questions regarding this now is the perfect time to ask .

Update 1:

IP.Shoutbox (the shoutbox software we use) has released version 1.1.0 RC 1 some days ago for IPB 3. Tested it today and it contains a huge bug. No one can shout, lol. I'm not going to upgrade if we're not going to have a working shoutbox from day one. For that reason I'm waiting for a fix. This means I'm gonna have to sit here and wait before I can continue v2.

Update 2:

I resolved the shoutbox issue.
Dropping Internet Explorer 6 support

I would like to inform you that from this point forward any changes made to the site will no longer be tested on Internet Explorer 6 (and below). If you still use that version of the browser parts of the site may not work as expected in the future.

Should you still be using IE 6 I recommend updating it to the latest available version which at this time is Internet Explorer 8. However I personally recommend Firefox for this site mainly because it follows the W3C standards and its the browser I use to test new developments on Code-Projects.

When Firefox 3.5 comes out next month it will have improved support for the HTML 5 and CSS 3 standard. This is worth noting because the site already uses these new standards in some areas, thus, Code-Projects will look even better on Firefox 3.5.

That is all for now =).

The Downtime

So I guess some of you will want to know what caused the downtime and the Site Suspended message. A site which is on the same server as us was attacked with a 40Mbit strong DDoS attack. This caused the first downtime and required a server reboot afterwards. This reboot screwed up some stuff on the server apparently and that's why the suspended message came up.

Here's the mails from the host:

Quote

Hello,

We were experiencing an isolated 40mBIT DDoS attack on one of our NL server IP's. I've requested that the datacenter null the IP of the targetted website. Also the owner of the website that was being attacked has kindly changed his DNS. We are trying our best to mitigate this attack. I will be moving the affected client to my friends DDoS protected network, and I also plan to get a server in DDoS protected network to prevent such issues the future.

Regards

Quote

Hello,

After the DDoS attacked yesterday. Worldstream denied there was a DDoS attack and did not null the IP as I requested and they deny the attack happened. So instead of fixing a small problem, they used NOC monkey or someshit to reboot the box, and now nothing is working right and the server is not how I configured it. Rather than backtrack and spend hours fixing the problem they caused. I just ordered a new server from Leasweb and I should have it ready today. I will transfer everyones site to the box and hopefully everyone will be back online by tonight.

I apologogize for the inconvenience. This has ruined my memorial day weekend and I have cancelled my weekend plans so that I can work on the server.

I hope you understand. Please be patient with me while I work to get everyones site restored and back online.

Thank you.

Quote

Hello,

My friend and I have diagnosed and repaired the problems with the server. About 92 days, I forgot to configure fstab to reflect the new file system settings and when the datacenter rebooted the server without my permission, it totally messed up the file system.

So we re mounted the tmp partitions, and then repaired all the mysql databases, that were corrupted. Everything should work now. If you are still experiencing mysql errors please let me know.

Now I just need to get my money back from Leasweb D:

Sorry for the inconveinance. If you would like credit towards your next invoice, just let me know.

AV Warnings

Some people reported that their anti virus program gave a warning on some pages. I have looked into the issue and edited some of the IPB source files to return nothing instead of the empty 1x1 px GIF file. I don't know why it IPB returns a GIF in the first place except maybe to prevent a "error 404" page from being shown. I haven't personally noticed any AV warnings but that's probably because I'm using Linux these days for 90% of the time 8-> .

Either way this issue should now be fixed. If it should pop up again then please inform me ASAP.
If anyone still has any questions about this I'll be happy to provide an answer.

Thanks, Hyperz.

Team Members

I haven't been looking after the teams much lately but after giving it a look today I noticed that some (namely Fooart/.Tony) aren't really doing anything anymore. Also you, iNutR, aren't doing that much anymore either (you started out very well though). I might sound harsh but I rather have no team members then have ones that don't contribute (anymore).

If for some reason you don't have the time to do so or simply lost interest at least let me know. I'll give it a few days for things to improve after which I'll have to demote people .

For other people, if you wish to join one of the teams please have a look at this post:

Planned maintenance

Today (don't know the exact time) I'll be taking the board offline for 15 to maximum 60 minutes for some maintenance. There are a few issues/bugs with the SEO mod that I will try to resolve. I will also fix some minor potential IPB security issues. This shouldn't take to long if all goes well so lets hope it does.

Dual column layout.

As you can see I've been doing some changes on the skin. More specifically I made the layout dual column instead of single column. Reason for doing so because - in my opinion - it makes better use of the available space. And, it puts stuff closer at hand (less scrolling etc). Another thing about this is that its pretty unique. There are some vBulletin based forums out there that have a dual column layout but I have yet to see an IPB forum (other then C-P) that has it.

Anyway I hope y'all like the change. If you're lazy like me you probably will, but anyhow please vote .

Downtime, please read.

Hello people. As you most likely noticed we had some downtime. I don't want to go into detail what the issue was but in a nutshell: the old host pressed the delete button on my account. Resulting in a loss of, well, everything. Luckily I had backups but not the latest one. The one I restored was 2 days older so that means there is a loss of 2 days of data. To put it into numbers we are down 20 members and 100 posts (roughly). The blue theme is also gone but that will return in a few days. I know its a bitch but please understand that this whole issue was beyond my control.

Anyways, the good thing is we're back and the loss of data has been kept to a minimum. It could of been much worse. So my apologies for this whole thing.

Before you shoot me with a silver bullet: No, i'm not gonna get rid of the C-P skin! Over the next few weeks I will be working on some colored versions of the current skin, still leaving the gray/dark blue one as default. These are the upcoming versions:
- StealBlue or blue (matching the owner/crackers team color)
- Pink (matching the GFX team color)
- Orange (Admins/Super mods team)
- Green (Coders team)

Upcoming Changes

Hi.

I'd like to inform you all of some upcoming changes that will be taking place over the next few days. First of all Code-Projects will be taking a trip across the ocean. What I mean by that is that it will change locations. Secondly and more noticeable will be the addition of some new sections (and user groups). These include download sections, 18+, free premium accounts, 'underground' sections and some others. I want to stress though that the addition of warez will not effect the fact that this should be a home for us coders. I see the download sections as an extra that will give us a more diverse and free community.

I will keep you all up to date on the progress and I'll be happy to answer any questions or suggestions you might have about this.

Peace .

New shoutbox on the way

Today (don't know what time yet) I'll be taking the forum down for 10 to 30 minutes to install and fine tune a new shoutbox. Yes i know the one we have now is fine but it is very resource demanding. A test I did yesterday on my PC showed that after posting 20 'big' shouts the CPU usage would go up to 100% every time (each 5 seconds) the shouts were refreshed. That is ALOT for a simple shoutbox such as the current one.

The new one will run much smoother and yet at the same time offer more futures. It is made by Invision (the people who made IPB itself).
